1. RIP joeyquits.com

Hey I’m keeping this up for archival purposes but I’m officially shutting down this blog. We had a good few years, got covered in a lot of major media including 20/20, USA Today, and the New York Times, and spread a lot of information about injustice in the service industry. I’m continuing to work on these issues but no longer through this site. I’ll have a concentrated website of stuff I’m working on up soon, but for now follow my stuff at

  5. I was back on Serbian reality TV show SVE ZA LJUBAV last week. We held a benefit concert earlier this year to raise funds for victims of the catastrophic flooding in the Balkans earlier this year. They aired some of the concert along with this solidarity message I delivered in badly spoken Serbian. Donate to the Red Cross’s Balkan flood relief efforts here.

  6. I don’t usually crosspost my music here, but here’s an exception. Victoria Ruiz and I made a special Labor Day mixtape for IMPOSE Magazine on behalf of our group Malportado Kids.

  8. Just one week left to view the art and history exhibition I put together at Slater Mill Museum on the textile worker strike of 1824! We’re open 10-4 everyday this week. Exhibit closes on July 31st.

Pictured here are the works Autonomia by Ian Cozzens, The Selvage by Kristina Brown, and a detail from one of our screen-printed historical narrative panels. The exhibit features work from several local artists coupled with text panels explaining the strike and its significance. All the work is displayed right on the Slater Mill factory floor.

SUPPORT PROVIDENCE HOTEL WORKERS ON HUNGER STRIKE

Rally today at 5PM at the Rhode Island state house.

Four brave working women have declared a hunger strike in response to the RI General Assembly’s outlawing of city minimum wage raises.

The strikers are demanding that Governor Lincoln Chafee veto the proposed budget that includes the extreme minimum-wage provision, and will not eat until the Governor acts on the matter. They are camped outside of the Statehouse indefinitely.

Please come to a 5pm rally to support these brave women, and to demand that outlawing minimum wage raises be stopped.

    More on the situation here.

  10. Rhode Island House to Outlaw Minimum Wage Increases–Rally Tonight!

Some particularly insane stuff going down in Rhode Island right now. We’ve been working on getting a $15/hr minimum wage passed for hotel workers in the city of Providence, similar to what’s happened in Long Beach and now Seattle.

In response, the hotel lobbyists have chosen the sneakiest, more corrupt route possible and just got a bill attached to the Rhode Island state budget proposal that would ban cities from passing minimum wage laws.

That’s right–a statewide ban on cities passing minimum wage laws. This is terrifying for Rhode Island, but even more terrifying as a precedent that could spread throughout the country.

Let’s kill it here and now! Rally tonight at the RI state house at 5:15PM. This is truly a crisis please come out!
